I cannot believe it!!!! One year has passed in the blink of an eye; it has been such a wonderful year. i feel like our wedding was just yesterday - I still giggle when I get to introduce Chris to new people as "my husband" (I take that as a good thing, but maybe that just means we don't meet many people?? hahaha) Chris is the most amazing, supportive, talented, hard-working, handsome (and every other superlative) husband ever and I am so proud to be his wife. Here's to one year of marriage and many, many more. I love you so much Chris! <3
We have had a fantastic weekend so far!! Chris got out of work a little early on Friday and we headed to the Shenandoah Valley to go camping at Mathews Arm Campground. It was a nice drive out (took a little longer than it should, as per usual thanks to the wonderful District of Columbia). We arrived at about 9 pm (partially thanks to having to back track 9 miles to get gas as we never would have made it up the mountain 10 miles to our campsite!)
Anyway, we got there and right as we were about to turn into Mathews Arm (what a weird name haha) we saw a black bear cross the road! We were psyched!!! Soooo we get to our site, A 12, and start setting up in the dark! However, we just bought some new camping gear and invested in 2 head lights so it was no problem at all! Best purchase ever! We got the tent set up and then cooked some chicken fajitas...YUM! (Ever notice how food has never tasted better when you're camping?!) and had a small campfire for a couple of hours.
Saturday we spent a lot of the day traveling along Skyline Drive. I did this a long time ago with my family but Chris had never experienced it so we wanted to check it out. It's a long mountain road along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Shenandoah Valley, VA. It has a lot of pull-offs to check out with great views. It was really beautiful! We packed our lunch and ate on the rocks before heading back to camp. Once we got back we did a whole lot of relaxing!! Cracked open the brews and hung out, enjoying each other's company without the distractions of electronics. Phones were off. Blackberry was home. Could not ask for more. Eventually we decided to get off our butts and went for a walk....check out the pics below to see what wildlife we came across!! Then we cooked some supper and indulged in a WHOLE bag of marshmallows and had s'mores too, of course! That night after we went to bed we started hearing some thunder and could see the flashes of lightening through our tent - no rain though (yet)! Well, at about 6 am we were woken up by POURING rain! So we got up, packed our things, and headed out just a few hours ahead of schedule. Now our balcony is full of camping gear that did not dry off before we took off!

Our first attempt at a family photo was not successful! I set the timer on the camera, went to go pick up Fenway but she ran away! As I was running back with her in my arms, the timer was about to go off and Chris made a silly face that made me crack up! Needless to say, I could not pose for the picture!
So we tried again and we did not have much more luck! But we're all there. So here you have it - The Yerxa Family 8/2/09 <3
